Are you Team Sunrise or Team Sunset? Well, I belong to the latter (don't worry, Team Sunrise—there will be another blog post about the best places to catch the sunrise!). Hong Kong may be famous for its towering skyscrapers and bustling streets, but we have no shortage of places that offer the most mesmerizing sunset views. Read on to find out about more!
1. The Peak

Well, it's a no-brainer that the Peak made it to the list. At an elevation of 552 metres (1,811 ft), this highest hill on Hong Kong Island never fails to offer the most breathtaking panoramic views of Hong Kong. Watch the golden glow of the setting sun reflecting off the skyscrapers and Victoria Harbour beneath your feet as the sun dips. There are several spots to enjoy the perfect sunset: the just-right-there Lion Pavillion or the Lugard Road Lookout for those who wouldn't mind a serene 20-minute stroll (each way) on the Lugard Road. Or head to the Peak Galleria's free observation deck on Level 3.
Getting there:
Take the Peak Tram from Central (Garden Road) for a scenic and exciting ride. Alternatively, take bus 15 from Central Exchange Square.
2. Devil's Peak

A lesser-known, yet not less stunning cousin of the Peak in the Kowloon side. Once a strategic military site garrisoned by the British Army in the early 20th century, Devil's Peak offers expansive views of the sunset and the Kowloon skyline. Imagine watching ships passing through the narrow Lei Yue Mun Channel into the Victoria Harbour, all while surrounded by remnants of old military forts - I would say it's an experience worth the short and breezy hike!
Getting there:
At Yau Tong Station MTR station, take Exit A2 onto Ko Chiu Road. Follow the signs to the Junk Bay Chinese Permanent Cemetery, which is the start of the hiking trail. This 1.5 km (1 mile) hike to the summit takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
3. Braemar Hill (aka the Red Incense Burner Summit)

Probably the most leisurely hike (more like a walk) to a vantage point that offers a stunning 360-degree view of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, Beamar Hill is a true hidden gem to catch the sunset. Overlooking the eastern part of Victoria Harbour, this location provides a unique perspective of the skyline bathed in warm hues. Just a 10-minute walk from the Braemar Hill bus terminal, this will surely be your new favourite to-go spot for the best views of Hong Kong!
Getting there:
At Tin Hau MTR station, take Exit A1 and look for the 49M green minibus. Get off at Upper Braemar Hill Bus Terminus. Cross the street, and you will see a path next to the St. Joan of Arc Secondary School. This is the starting point of your rewarding walk.
4. West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade

A better and less crowded alternative to the famous Tsim Sha Tsui Waterfront Promenade, the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade offers an uninterrupted view (no fences!) of Victoria Harbour. Situated in the West Kowloon Cultural District, it's a perfect place for an evening stroll or sunset picnic (did I mention the huge open lawn spaces that hug the promenade?). Bring your own booze or enjoy the beautiful sunset in one of the chic harbourside cafes and bars.
Getting there:
At Kowloon MTR station, take Exit E4 or E5; alternatively, at Austin MTR station, take Exit D and walk towards the harbourfront for about 10 minutes.
5. Kennedy Town Waterfront Praya

Situated inside the Kennedy Town waterfront park, this peaceful praya is a fantastic place to watch the sun go down. Frequented by locals, you will see kids running around the park, cool kids showing off their skating skills, and even a dog park by the sea!? Hands down one of the most relaxing places to enjoy sunset, while getting a taste of everyday life in Hong Kong.
Getting there:
At Kennedy Town MTR station, take Exit A onto Smithfield. Walk towards the harbourfront for 5 minutes; the waterfront park is on your right.
